A woman in Ecuador was declared dead from coronavirus, but the hospital mixed up its patients and the “dead” woman later awoke from a coma and called her stunned family, the BBC reported.

Alba Maruri, 74, “died” on March 27 from COVID-19, or at least that’s what doctors in the city of Guayaquil thought, according to the BBC.

Her family visited the hospital morgue that day, but didn’t get a good look at the body because they stayed a safe distance away, the BBC reported. Whoever they were looking at, it wasn’t Maruri.

But acting on the assumption that it was indeed their relative, the family asked for the body to be cremated and later received the ashes, according to the BBC.
